Lance is a 24-year employee of the ODWC. Starting as the hunter education coordinator, then a Senior Information &
Education Specialist and now the Education Supervisor. His section manages all the Wildlife Department’s education
programs including Hunter Education, Aquatic Education, Oklahoma Scholastic Shooting Sports Program, Shotgun
Training Education Program, Oklahoma National Archery in the Schools Program, Varsity Archery, Explore Bowhunting
and more. The wildlife department’s gun range renovation and construction projects are also managed out of his section.
In his tenure as an ODWC employee he has marshalled the hunter education program through significant changes such as
offering an online course, adjusting course length and delivery methods, becoming the first state with their own state
specific hunter education manual and more. He was also a part of the team that started the OKNASP program in Oklahoma,
the first gun range renovations,
Lance grew up in Broken Bow in southeastern Oklahoma fishing the Glover and Mountain Fork Rivers and every pond he
could get permission for, and hunting rabbits, deer, turkey and even quail. He has recently taken up waterfowl hunting
and fly-fishing.
He lives in Bethany, OK with his wife, Melissa; son, Drexel; two dogs and a cat. His daughter, Payton, lives in Yukon.
Mission and Purpose
The mission of SCI is to protect the freedom to hunt and to promote wildlife conservation worldwide.
The purposes of SCI are....
To advocate, preserve and protect the rights of all hunters.
To promote safe, legal and ethical hunting and related activities.
To advocate within the limits imposed by law and regulation.
To monitor, support, or otherwise take positions on local, national and international legislative,
executive, judicial or organizational endeavors that foster and support SCI's mission and
purposes.
To inform and educate the public concerning hunting and related activities.
SCI members help shape and promote the image of the hunter to the general public, through their
words and actions. In addition to practicing ethical hunting while in the field, SCI members give back by
participating in educational, civic, conservation and humanitarian efforts across the globe.
